History

The original Josephine’s Dry Goods was established in 1976 quickly became a fabric odyssey. Josephine’s has always specialized in the finest apparel textiles, providing the Northeast’s sewing community with a plethora of fabric options. In September of 2013, Judith Head (one of the originating founders) closed the doors to Josephine’s downtown Portland location, to spend time with her three grandchildren.

Shortly thereafter, Bini Leach and Dana Leach (sisters by marriage and previous patrons) decided to revive Josephine’s. Judith Head graciously provided her blessing, expertise, guidance and assistance throughout the process, helping Josephine’s Dry Goods re-open in the Summer of 2014. Now located at the intersection of Clinton St and 26th Ave in the SE Portland, Josephine’s Dry Goods continues its commitment to providing the finest textiles the world offers.

While under new ownership, Josephine’s will continue to carry the highest quality apparel textiles, providing a plethora of fabric options — including, but not limited to, Liberty of London (cotton lawns & poplins, silks, jerseys, wools & twills), Italian wools, French laces, Japanese denim, the worlds finest linens, scrumptious silks, inspiring knits and an amazing selection of luxurious fabric blends. We will also continue to specialize in unique buttons, ribbons and trim.

“I am so glad to see that Josephine's is back! I loved that store, I used to buy lots of natural fiber ribbon and buttons from Josephine's. I am still wearing a blouse I made from “French Twill” I purchased at Josephines 20 years ago—good quality fabric makes a big difference!”
