It's All in the Details... a 6 package series of intermediate level 2 hour classes designed to brush up on basics, increase your skills in machine and hand sewing, learn fine sewing techniques beyond those you find in patterns and discover how and where to use them in creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind garments. A kit for sample making will be supplied for each class.
Fabric Fundamentals: September 12th 10 AM to 12 PM
Let's begin with the basics. You will learn about different types of fabrics and how to choose appropriate fabrics for your pattern choice. We'll talk about grain, pre-shrinking, cutting, marking and some valuable tools you will want in your sewing basket. Start your notebook of samples you can use for reference in all your sewing projects.
Simply Perfect Seams & Edges: September 19th 10 AM to 12 PM
Say no to puckered, crooked seams, lumps, bumps and bulky edges. Perfect seams and smooth, flat edges are the result when you understand how to trim, grade, clip, notch, under stitch and press properly. In this 2-hour intermediate level workshop, Marla will define these terms and show you how to incorporate the techniques in a variety of seams. Increase your skills as you make samples in class and learn how to sew simply perfect seams and edges.
Hand Stitching Primer: September 26th 10AM to 12 PM
Basic hand sewing techniques are an integral part of sewing. Hand stitching gives you maximum accuracy for marking, basting, hemming and finishing. Practice a variety of basic stitches and learn when and where to use each one in this 2-hour beginner level workshop. Bring your favorite hand sewing needle and create a sampler of hand stitches as your reference for future projects.
Versatile Silk Organza: October 3rd 10 AM to 12 PM
Silk organza is an excellent choice as a fashion fabric, but even better as a tool for invisible understructure. It's lightweight, yet crisp hand makes it a great choice for couture sewing details on the inside of a garment that offer support and structure. We will explore 10 ways to use this wonderful fabric in this 2-hour Intermediate level workshop. See how organza can help you sew the most beautiful garments!
Zippers Made Easy: October 10th 10 AM to 12 PM
Take the fear out of zipper applications in this 2-hour beginners workshop! You will learn simple methods for inserting zippers - fly front and a traditional lapped for regular zippers and a four-step method for invisible zippers. Practice each technique on a sample during class and you'll be ready for any zipper.
Practical Couture Techniques: October 17th 10 AM to 12 PM
Boost your confidence in this 2-hour intermediate level couture techniques workshop. Learn to vary from the pattern guide sheet, choose alternative techniques for edge finishes, hems, darts and more and add creative design touches to create the most beautiful garments - it's all in the details...
