Are you just learning to sew? Do you want to take a class or join a sewing group? If so, consider starting your own group. This is a great way to get together with friends and family once or twice a month to have fun and learn a few new things along the way.
Create Your Own Group | Best Fabric Portland
Chances are, you have someone in your family or a friend who already knows how to sew. If you're lucky, one or more will be quite the expert. In the past, sewing was a skill that was passed down from one generation to the next. If you are interested in keeping this type of thing going, starting a sewing group might be the best way to do so.
The best way to start your group is to talk with friends and family about getting a group going. See how interested they are and how often they would like to meet.
Once you have an idea of how many people are interested and how much time they can devote to the club, you can decide how many meetings you will have each month.
Starting with at least one meeting per month is a great idea. This will give everyone a chance to get used to setting aside time for the sewing club.
Next, talk with your friends and family about a good meeting time. Some may prefer evenings while others prefer weekends. You'll have to take a majority rules basis for making a decision on meeting time. It's probably the best idea to have meetings take place in the evenings or on Saturdays. Many work during the week and don't have the ability to take off during the daytime.
Once you've established a time, it's important to choose a location for the meeting. You will need a great deal of space and a room that is not filled with lots of furniture. Otherwise, you'll have to move it all out of the way to set up tables and sewing machines. If you choose to have the meeting at your house, make sure everyone is comfortable with this place. You can also go from one home to the next as long as each participant is willing to host the group.
