According to Wikipedia.com, “Embroidery uses various combinations of stitches. Each embroidery stitch has a special name to help identify it. These names vary from country to country and region to region. Some embroidery books will include name variations. Taken by themselves the stitches are mostly simple to execute, however when put together the results can be extremely complex.”
This type of stitch works through the ground of fabric in Portland OR, up and down in a single direction.
Passing through in a circular motion, back stitching repeats movements along through the entire sewing process. It begins by coming from the back of the fabric. Then, follow these directions:
- make a stitch to the right going back to the back of the fabric
- pass behind the first stitch and come up to the front of the fabric to the left of the first stitch
- go back to the back of the fabric through the same hole the stitch first came up from
- repeat movements to the left of the stitches
Knowing the different types of stitches will be key when starting your sewing journey.
